Spy Dad by Jukka Laajarinne & Timo Mänttäri (Pikku Publishing)

We just had to share this utterly stylish and gripping story. Presented in such a compelling and accessible format, ‘Spy Dad‘ is sure to please audiences of all ages.

Having a Dad as a secret agent isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Olivia wants to spend more time with her family, but Dad is always on some mission or other!

So when he agrees to take time off work and take her on an adventure, where on earth could it lead?

Danger always seems to be lurking close by, but luckily for Olivia Dad is always one step ahead and they are able to enjoy their quality time together.

The story by Jukka Laajarinne moves at apace and the graphic novel style lends itself well to this action packed adventure, creating suspense and tension.

Timo Mänttäri‘s sumptuous palettes are reminiscent of a classic retro comic and with the incorporation of minute details on every spread, this would make for a great transitional read.

It’s easy to see why this book has been nominated for the Finlandia Junior Prize and we can’t recommend this enough.

An action-packed read and one which would be perfect for a diverse range of readers with plenty to spot in the incredibly detailed illustrations.
