The Snow Lion by Jim Helmore & Richard Jones (Simon & Schuster)

We’d waited with baited breath for this book. The cover was posted on Twitter and we knew it’d be our kind of read.

The Snow Lion is a beautifully understated, gently unfurling story about courage, friendship and finding who we are.

When Caro and her mum move to a new home it takes a while for Caro to settle in and she is overcome with loneliness.

But just when she needed it most, along comes The Snow Lion to help her along her way.

Written so eloquently and illustrated so sensitively, the coupling of Jim Helmore and Richard Jones has made for the perfect picture book pairing.

With calming palettes and textured spreads, Jones‘s artwork empathetically supports Helmore‘s text impeccably.

As the story unfolds, Caro begins to find herself and forms new friendships, so what will become of the Snow Lion?

Sometimes all we need is a little self-belief, a good smattering of courage and a good friend. An important underlying message played out in a warm story with delightful illustrations.

We’ve formed an instant fondness for this tale and it will be one that we will re-visit regularly.
