I Dare You by Reece Wykes (Andersen Press)

This debut offering from Reece Wykes is utterly hilarious and totally ridiculous, with a wicked sense of humour.

I Dare You‘ is a tongue-in-cheek, highly humorous look at one-upmanship and outsmarting your friends.

As two bored gorillas invite each other to take on an eating challenge, just how ludicrous can this game get before someone’s eyes become bigger than their belly?

From bugs and birds to an enormous rock, which gorilla will cave first and just exactly which dare will be a step too far..?

Reece Wykes has a wicked, dry sense of humour and it emanates from every spread, through his sparse but clever narrative and his humour-filled illustrations.

With each turn of the page there’s a new, more ludicrous dare that will trump the previous one, surely one of them will stop?

It’s a story to be taken in the vein (and humour) in which it is written and highlights the folly in playing ‘dares’.

I laughed out loud when I first read this book and laughed some more when I read it with my three children (aged between 7 and 11).

  1. I’m intrigued to read this now. I used to work in bookshops so got to know all the new titles. I am feeling more out of touch now. I love childrens’ books.
