We absolutely loved Nick Frith’s debut picture book ‘Hector And Hummingbird‘ so we were particularly enthralled to see how his next offering would fare.
And we were not disappointed!
‘Hello Mr Dodo‘ is a heart-warming story, played out in resplendently quirky palettes, reminiscent of a children’s book from the past, but very much with a current and contemporary flavour.
Nick J Frith’s unique style and layering of colour is a joy to behold, adding depth to his unfurling spreads.
Unbeknownst to her, Martha, a keen twitcher (bird watcher) stumbles across an unsuspecting dodo. During the long summer she learns lots about her new feathered friend.
She knows that this is a secret to be kept to herself but what happens, when she mistakenly lets it slip?!
Frith‘s delightfully rich spreads provide a warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling in his palette choices. His illustrations are full of complementary tones and texture and his expressive characters, effortlessly effervescent.
An endearing tale of the longevity of friendship and the best kept secrets between good buddies.
