11156173_10153180981835446_5149995873762348650_nWe spotted this book online and were instantly drawn to the soft, elegant illustrations, with a beautifully selected palette.

We have to say, it’s even better in the flesh. The coupling of Mary Lundquist‘s muted illustrations with such an accessible and heart warming story makes for an endearing read.

11149387_10153180981915446_1635433525697718568_nThe story encapsulates the fluctuations in friendships and the harsh lessons we learn when we forge strong relationships.

“Cat and Bunny were born on the same day of the same month in the same year.

Right from the start they did everything together. Just the two of them.”

11160578_10153180981960446_4147571492688046468_nFriendship can be tricky to tackle at any age and this is a great introduction to the adjustments and flexibility that is required to make perfect team.

With what appear to be pencil and watercolour spreads of two adorable children dressed in animal costumes, what’s not to love?

We particularly love the end papers.

10985876_10153180981875446_763541986110052349_nThe story plays out among lots of white space accompanied by minimal copy, making this book a perfect text for young and emerging readers, but one that will be understood universally.
