Dog on Stilts

Digital LeafFrom the clever (but slightly unhinged) team at Digital Leaf who brought us ‘The Weasel Puffin Unicorn Baboon Pig Lobster Race’, comes ‘Dog on Stilts’ by James Thorp and Angus MacKinnon.

It’s just as surreal and whacky as their initial offering, and equally as well done, with psychedelic illustrations and a quirky font, but the underlying message is abundantly clear.

Stilts

Meet Dog, a medium, furry hound much like any other but he wants to stand out from the crowd, so he dons a pair of stilts in a vain attempt to be noticed.

But he soon finds out that being different and standing out isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

He can’t play with his friends or eat his favourite dog biscuits.

Bump!

Instead he chases the squirrels who don’t wish to play and can only eat fruit from the tree tops and it all comes to an abrupt end when he falls from his stilts having tried to grab the last apple from the tree.

So does medium dog learn his lesson?

I suspect we’re going to see more wonderfully whacky books from this duo. The books are of the highest quality too, so if you’re a fan of the quirky and quality, these are definitely for you.
