Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam by Tracey Corderoy & Steven Lenton

With a tear on page 5, more than a few dog-eared page corners (no pun intended) and the numerous bends along the spine that only a much-loved book can proudly display.

We’d been promising to treat ourselves to a new copy, so when the youngest member of our family was lucky enough to win a hardback copy, signed by Steve, we were very happy.

I should point out now that this book includes cake and we love cake almost as much as we love books! So it’s already onto a winner here.

There are so many things to love about these robber dog rogues. Following many a failed attempt at stealing, they hatch a plan to invite their neighbours round to a party and whilst they’re all busy devouring delicious cake, the devious dogs sneak out and burgle their homes. What could possibly go wrong?

But the sneaky dogs had never made cake before, so they set about creating cakes of all shapes and sizes. Let’s just hope they taste ok!

Little did they know, the neighbours would foil their preposterous plan and catch them in the act. The two dogs were clearly never cut out to be robbers and the neighbours soon came up with a much better choice of career.

The cakes the dogs had made were a top notch treat and they convinced the bungling burglars to open up a cafe.

A fabulous rhyming story with burgling blunders and copious amounts of cake. The perfect choice for any 4 year old (or 44 year old for that matter).

A big thank you to Steve Lenton for having a sense of humour of a 4 year old 😉 As you can see this little man is a big fan.
